Ronald LeRoy Willson

May 9, 1952 — October 28, 2022

Ronald Leroy Willson, formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully in his sleep on October 28, 2022. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Visitation with food and fellowship with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, IA.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.  To celebrate Ron, we are asking you to wear Red Sox, Huskers, or your favorite team shirt. One last tailgate in his honor. Those in Yankee or Hawkeye attire are subject to removal from the service.

Born in Sioux City in May 1952, Ron spent many years working in the manufacturing industry as a foreman at IBP, followed by time at Mars and Royal Canine. Later in life, he and his wife founded R & A Cleaning Solutions where he worked until retirement moving to warmer climates, Omaha, NE.

Ron was, without question, the quintessential Boston Red Sox and Huskers fan. His passion and knowledge of both teams were an important part of his life and he loved to share it with friends and family. He loved nothing more than to share the thrill of victory with a hug, smile, text, or phone call. Almost as important as a win by his two favorite teams was a Yankees or Hawkeye defeat! Ron was equally passionate about weightlifting, golfing and enjoying scenic bike rides with his wife. Ron loved life.  He loved his friends. He loved his family.

Ron was a well-read, self-made man with a great thirst for knowledge. He was quietly witty with an infectious laugh, genuinely kind and morally strong. He was a loyal Democrat and was an ardent political observer. Yet, while Ron found pleasure in many topics and activities, nothing topped how impassioned Ron was about his family.  They were #1.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Marshall Willson, three sisters, Cathy (Steve) Allan, Sandy (Jack) Sell, and Becky (Scott) Rumohr, one  brother, Bill (Sheila) Willson, his beloved wife, Anette Biggs Willson (His Netty) daughters, Sara (Ben), Katie (Brad), granddaughters, Sophia and Sydney, and grandson, Boston (naturally!) and many, many loving nieces, nephews, dear relatives and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Willson, and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Biggs-List.

Ron combatted his leukemia with every fiber of his being earning the moniker, “Warrior Willson. “We were helped by so many during this hard time and want to thank all the doctors, nurses and all support staff at Nebraska Cancer Specialists, Nebraska Medicine, MD Anderson in Houston, and the kind and caring staff at Pacific Springs Village Assisted Living in Omaha. A special thank you to the staff at Home 2 Suites by Hilton Houston Medical Center, TX for the amazing support and service we received during our time there. We are also thankful for the assistance from the Lazarex Foundation which focuses on improving the outcomes of advanced-stage cancer patients by identifying FDA clinical trials and providing out-of-pocket costs for participants.
