Rose Maxine (Edler) Owens, 82, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her residence, while surrounded by her loving family.Per Maxine's wishes, a private family Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Maxine was born on November 23, 1933 in Waterbury, NE, the daughter of Earl and Grace (Fairfield) Edler. She graduated from Waterbury High School in 1951, and married Ralph Owens on June 24, 1951 at Wesley Methodist Church in Leeds. The couple lived in Onawa, IA before Ralph joined the U.S. Army and they moved to Camp Roberts, CA, where she worked as a clerk typist for the government. They then moved to Ft. Benning, Georgia and she worked for an insurance company. Following Ralph's discharge from the U.S. Army, they moved back to the Hornick, Luton and Sergeant Bluff, IA areas where they farmed and raised 4 children. After their children graduated from high school, Maxine worked as a bookkeeper at Sioux Harbor Truck Stop and Day's Door Company until she retired.Maxine was very active and supportive of her children's education and activities. She was also a member of Eastern Star for many years. Her main joy in life was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed teaching her grand and great-grandchildren to play Yahtzee!Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ralph Owens of Sioux City, IA; children, Ralph & Michaela Owens of Ankeny, IA, Deb & Duane Van Gorp of West Des Moines, IA, Sheryl & Rich Uhl of Sloan, IA and Cyndi & Marc Owens-Kurtz of North Oaks, MN; siblings, Jeanne & Perk Perkins of Waterbury, NE; grandchildren, Stacy Speltz, Todd Owens, Kari & Ron Dorrian, Amy & Chad Larson, Amy & Eric Roesler, Matt Uhl, Paige Owens-Kurtz and Grace Owens-Kurtz; great-grandchildren, Ashley & Brenna Speltz, Kayla Owens, Bryan, Dallas & Allison Dorrian, Grace & Anna Larson and Megan & Kendra Roesler; sisters-in-law, Marie Pickens of Sloan, IA and Kenna Mae Owens of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Grace Edler; her brothers, Don, Ron, Phil, Delmar and Raymond "Butch"; her sister, Earleen; and other dear family members.
