Rosemary was born in Sioux City, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Pope) O’Kane. She lived in Sioux City all her life with the exception of a few winters in Florida. Rosmary attended Blessed Sacrament, Bishop Heelan High School, and Briar Cliff University. She worked for the Diocese of Sioux City for the Bishop’s Office and the Diocesan Education Office. At the time the new North High School was built and opened she moved to North High as Registrar for several years and made many long-time friends and thoroughly enjoyed the students. After many years, a position opened in the Sioux City School Administration Building and she moved downtown and worked with several superintendents, again making several life-time close friends with her co-workers. Rosemary retired after several years and did volunteer work.
Rosemary loved to travel, and along with her sister, she traveled to Europe and Hawaii. She loved Florida and joined her family there for several years. After she bought a small condo, it was a place for company and gatherings. As Rosemary got older, she decided to sell her place and join her sister and brother-in-law in staying put for good.
Briar Cliff University and Bishop Heelan High School were special places in Rosemary’s heart. She will be remembered as a precious and much-loved sister, dear and true friend, and sharing her fun-loving spirit and humor.
Special gratitude to her family, especially Rosie, who spent so many hours sitting in doctor’s offices, helping with check-ups and knowledge, and to Susie O’Kane, Nancy Wiggs, Barb and Audra, and many other friends.
