Roy L. Sampson

Roy L. Sampson, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 peacefully with his family by his side.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  

Roy was born the son of William Jr. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Richer) Sampson on October 14, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa.  He attended Central High School.  Roy married Barbara Winters at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on June 5, 1971.  They made Sioux City their home. 

Roy was a member of the Laborers Local 427 and worked for W.A. Klinger and later as a mechanic for Siouxland Trailer Sales for many years until his retirement in 2014.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He really enjoyed participating in Cowboy Action Shooting and Quick Draw.  Time with family and grandchildren was very important to him.  He liked working on his own vehicles and appreciated classic cars. 

Roy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Sioux City Hawkeye Gun Club, the Nebraska Territorial Rangers, and the NRA.

Roy is survived by his wife, Barb Sampson of Sioux City; children, Dean (Tammy Gulbronson) Sampson of Merrill and Amy (David) Worrell of Hinton; mother, Betty Sampson of Sioux City; siblings, William Sampson III of Sioux City, Terry (Gary) Prokop of Sioux City, Vickie (Robert) Hazelwood of Sioux Falls; Ron (Julie) Sampson of Sioux City, Mary Jo Sampson of Sioux City; and Pete (Denise) Sampson of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Brandon, Lance, and Cameron Gulbronson and Taylor and Kylee Worrell; and sister-in-law, Judy Gomez.

He was preceded in death by his father; sister-in-law, Janice Sampson; and brothers-in-law, Terry and Dennis Winters.

Barb would like to sincerely thank her loving family, sister, and Roy’s hospice caregivers, Alecia, Denise, and Jon for their support and wonderful care of Roy.
