Russell J. Messerley Jr.

May 26, 1958 — June 20, 2021

Russell J. Messerley Jr., 63, of Omaha, formerly of South Sioux City, NE, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021 at his home due to complications of diabetes and dialysis.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 25, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. 

Russell was born May 26, 1958 in Sioux City, the son of Russell Sr. and Bonnie (Palmer) Messerley. He grew up in South Sioux City, NE and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1976. Following graduation, he moved to Omaha, NE and attended Omaha School of Arts for 3 years and earned his degree. He began working as a freelance artist, then worked at the Omaha World Harold, and several private firms. He most recently worked at Heartland Services for 8 years. In 1992, he married Gina Schwery. To this union, 2 daughters were born.

Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a member of Pheasants Forever. He cherished time spent with his daughters the most.

Those left to honor his memory are his mother, Bonnie Krumwiede of South Sioux City; wife Gina Messerley of Omaha; daughters Camile Messerley of San Francisco, CA and Tatum Messerley of Omaha; uncle and aunt, Al and Garnet Palmer of Oak Grove, MO; aunt Arlene O’Brien of Flowery Branch, GA; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents Ruth and Ernest Palmer, paternal grandparents John and Charlotte Dunhoeffer, his special uncle Erv Palmer, and several aunts and uncles.
