Sandra Sue Gerritson, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux City, IA, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the age of 78. Sandy, the daughter of Edward J. and Vernona (Hed) Sattler, was born on December 7, 1946, in Sioux City, Sandy was a remarkable woman whose life was marked by her dedication to her family, her passion for homemaking, and her love for the beauty of nature.
Growing up in Sioux City, Sandy excelled academically, graduating as a top student from Central High School in 1965. She further pursued her education at the University of South Dakota before returning home following the untimely death of her father.
Sandy was a devoted spouse to her husband, Ben Gerritson, and a loving mother to her two children, Kerensa and Brody. She took great pride in her role as a mother, nurturing her kids with love, kindness, and wisdom. As a homemaker, Sandy showcased her exceptional skills as a wonderful hostess. Her culinary talents were well known; she found joy in baking, cooking, and tending to her garden and flowers.
An avid book reader, Sandy could often be found with a book in hand, immersing herself in different worlds through literature. Her intelligence shone through her quiet and reserved demeanor, encapsulating the essence of a gentle yet brilliant mind.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Scott and Mark Sattler. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her immediate family, including her husband, Ben Gerritson of Sioux City; her daughter, Kerensa Gerritson of Austin, TX; her son, Brody (Candi) Gerritson of Ames, IA; as well as her four grandchildren: Aleshia, Austin, Benjamin, and Peyton. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren.
A visitation to honor Sandy's memory will take place on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, IA, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a Celebration of Life/Sharing of Memories beginning at 4:00 PM. Following this time, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship.
