Sarah Holloway-James

January 18, 1932 — December 7, 2021

Sarah Holloway-James, 89, of Sioux City, died December 7, 2021.  Visitation will be Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. with a vigil service at 6:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Sarah Holloway was born in Pioneer, LA, on January 18, 1932.  She moved to Sioux City with her parents in 1937.  She attended Sioux City Community Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1951.  She married George F. James, Sr., on January 2, 1954.  Sarah went to work for Sioux City Community Schools on Sept. 1, 1971, at Bancroft Elementary as a lunchroom aide.  She moved from Bancroft to Webster Elementary, then to Hopkins Elementary, where she served as an office aide.  She left Hopkins and moved to Everett Elementary as the secretary.  She retired from Everett on June 28, 2001.

Sarah was the recipient of the Good Citizenship Award while a student at Woodrow Wilson Jr High School.  She was the recipient of the Women of Excellence award in the category of Women Striving to Improve the Quality of Life in 1998; she served as a judge in selection of recipients in 2001.  She served as a lay minister at the Cathedral of the Epiphany, and as a docent at the Cathedral following its remodeling.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Bargain Center, and Goodwill Industries during its annual shoe party.  She was a frequent visitor to the Senior Center and loved to go to the casino. 

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Tommy Holloway; children, George Jr.,(Diane) James, Gloria James, Debra (Dexter) James-Brown, and Karen (Clarence) James-Pope, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren with two more due in 2022.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, George Sr.; parents, James and Delphia (Brown) Holloway; daughter, Evelyn Kay James; son, Michael James; granddaughter, LaTerra James; and two great-great grandtwins, Harmonee Givens and Giovanni Watkins.
