Shane Stapleton, 53, of rural Dakota City, a beloved husband, father, son and brother passed away on January 11, 2025, with his family by his side after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 25th at Mohr & Becker-Hunt in South Sioux City, NE with Jeff and Heidi Day leading the service. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior.
Shane was born July 29th, 1971, in Iowa City, IA to Clifford and Pauline Stapleton. He grew up in South Sioux City, where he found his love for farming, animals and junking from his lifelong mentor and grandfather Albert Owens, lovingly known as “Little Gramps.”
Shane’s years here on earth were short but filled with great happiness and success. He was most proud of his family. He met the love of his life, Bobbi, at the Skating Rink at a young age and together they built a life filled with memories. Shane was the proud father of Taylor, Tanner, and Tori. He owned and operated Stapleton Salvage for over 30 years. His son Tanner started with his dad at a very young age, side by side each day, learning the ropes of the yard as well as the farming operation. They were the best of friends, and as Tanner has said, “I learned from the best.”
Taylor, his first born, also gave him his favorite title of “Papa!” When his first grandson, Noah was born, he was excited and was also looking forward to meeting his first granddaughter, Shayna Jo, due this summer.
Tori enjoyed sharing her dad’s love for muscle cars and animals. They enjoyed taking the cars out for a Sunday drive. Shane shared a passion and many life lessons with each of his children. Shane left a significant impact on his family. The amount of love and devotion he displayed to each of them will always be cherished.
Shane’s hard work, sense of humor and kind heart lead him to make many friends and acquaintances. He was one that didn’t slow down, he worked hard and was proud of the life he built for himself and his family. Shane would drop everything to help anyone in need of anything. He was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed supporting the community and giving back. He also enjoyed a friendly flip. He would ask, “Wanna flip for a $100?”
He worked hard and enjoyed it, it was almost impossible to pull him away, but the last two years on trips to Costa Rica with his wife and friends, he would finally relax and let the work be for a short time. He also enjoyed many hours in the tractor cutting and bailing hay with his grandson, Noah and his son Tanner.
Shane is survived by his wife Bobbi, daughter Taylor (Alex) Bradbury, son Tanner Stapleton and daughter Tori Stapleton., Grandson Noah Bradbury and expecting granddaughter Shayna Jo. His mother Pauline Ehlers, brother Dustin (Jordan) Toquinto, many nieces, nephews, aunts & uncles, and cousins, along with the long list of friends who will forever feel the void of our legend, Shane.
Proceeded in death by his father Clifford Stapleton, his maternal grandparents Albert & Earlyne Owens, paternal grandparents Clifford and Bessie Stapleton. Two uncles, Steve & Richard Owens and Stepfather, Gary Ehlers.
Shane lived a short but very good life, if all his blessing and memories were lined up, you would see 53 years of abundant happiness! Our family thanks all of you for your prayers, thoughts, calls and visits during this difficult time. We will have a void in our hearts forever.
