Sharon was born November 11, 1944 in Sioux City to Howard and Charlotte (Thompson) Hanneman. Sharon attended Sioux City public schools, graduating in 1964 from Central High School.
Sharon was diligent and hard-working and held several positions around Sioux City. She began her career with the Zenith Corporation and later moved on to work for Aalfs Manufacturing. Prior to her retirement she was employed in housekeeping at Sioux City area hotels and professional offices.
Sharon enjoyed sewing and held a certain affection for all things owl-related. Sharon found great joy as an active participant in the thriving community at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, where she was once Volunteer of the Month. She was known to many at the Center as a constant and willing helping hand- be it cooking for and cleaning up after gatherings, volunteering at the Center’s coffee shop, or running the AV equipment for movies. She was quite fond of the library at the Center, where she could often be found working a puzzle with friends. Sharon was very generous and was always there to help. Her compassion for others, especially family and friends in need, knew no bounds.
Sharon is survived by two nephews, Kurt Berge (Kelly Arp-Berge) of Rochester, Minnesota; Jason Berge of Clarinda, Iowa, along with an aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Gerald Thompson of Sioux City, good friend Margaret McKenna of South Sioux City, in addition to several cousins around the country. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, as well as a sister, Lynnette Berge.
