Sherry Lynn (Nelsen) Davies, 51, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Homer, NE passed away on July 4, 2017 at the home of her mother, while surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle against cancer.Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Chaplain Brenda Zahnley officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.Sherry was born in Sioux City, IA on August 13, 1965 to Richard H. and Mary M. (Mast) Nelsen. She lived in Homer up until she graduated from Homer High School in 1983. Through her adult life she lived in several different areas. She worked as a waitress in several places and was always complimented on the job she had done. Sherry was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer where she was baptized and confirmed. She loved to sing in church.She and Elmer spent many evenings listening to the live concerts at the Hard Rock and loved "Saturday in the Park". She loved holidays with family and spending time with her grandchildren. Laughing and talking was something she enjoyed and in her eyes no one was a stranger. Her smile lit up the room when she walked in.Even though Sherry knew her time was short here on earth, she looked forward to the day she would no longer suffer the pain she was in, and go to heaven to the open arms of her loving father and God.Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Jason (Renee) Surber of Sioux City IA, Travis (Kaylé) Surber of South Sioux City, NE, and Shantel (Jason) Petzoldt of Brookings, SD; mother, Mary Nelsen of Homer, NE; brother, Brian (Liz) Nelsen of Sergeant Bluff, IA; grandmother, Margaret Mast of Emerson, NE; 10 grandchildren; many aunts, uncles and cousins; her significant other, Elmer Hambaugh, III; and her dog, Sal.Those preceding her in death were her father, Richard Nelsen on February 10, 2017; maternal grandfather; paternal grandparents; and four uncles.
