Shirley K. McCormick

Shirley Kay McCormick, 78 of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 at a local hospital.  Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Kenny Hsu officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin at noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be offered in Shirley's name to Noah's Hope, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, or to the Iowa Downs Syndrome Society. Shirley was born on Sunday, December 6, 1942 in Sioux City to wonderful parents, Edwin and Lucille (Yates) Schwedler, the youngest of four children.  She was raised on a farm, a life she thoroughly enjoyed, until the age of 18 when she graduated from high school and moved to the city to accept a position with the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce.  Shirley married Glenn Krueger and to this marriage, one daughter, Kristy was born.  In 1979, she married Pat McCormick, and to this marriage, daughter Katie was born. 

In 1966, Shirley began work with the City of Sioux City as a Legal Secretary in their legal department.  She then became the Office/Credit Manager for a local construction supply company for the next 36 years, retiring in 2017, a job she thoroughly enjoyed, especially her fellow co-workers.  

Throughout the years, Shirley enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling with her husband Pat in their RV, listening to music, going to movies, shopping, and especially the yearly family vacation to Lake Okoboji, creating many wonderful family memories.

Showing her the way on this journey are her parents, two brothers Gene and Jerry Schwedler, grandson Kristopher, and her four little dogs, Charlie, Lucy, George, and Gracie.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Pat McCormick; two beautiful daughters Kristy (Dave) Logue and Katie (Ryan) Hanke; two sons Chad (Amy) McCormick and Tim (Michelle) McCormick; ten grandchildren Kasey, Nikole, Tyler, Taylor, Jack, Brielle, Brady, Garenn, Patison and Howie; sister Jan Ortmeier; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

“Throughout my life, one thing I truly enjoyed was laughing…many times laughing at myself and my own jokes.  I often said I would laugh until I die.  So please, now that I’m gone, no tears, just laughter in my memory.  Until we meet again, God Bless.”
