Shirley Mae Uhl-Wiseman, 85, of Dakota City, NE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at a local hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery.
Born on September 24, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Sverre and Lena (Simon) Peterson, Shirley lived a rich, full life, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Shirley's legacy is one of devotion, hard work, and the unconditional love she offered her family. Having started at Central High School in Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1958, she went on to have a remarkable career with IBP, dedicating over thirty years to the company.
Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was tending to her beloved garden, enjoying horses, or losing herself in the challenge of puzzles. A loving supporter of her family, she cherished every opportunity to attend her grandchildren's events and enjoyed watching football, baseball, and wrestling.
Throughout her life, Shirley was a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Homer, NE, where she made lasting friendships and contributed to the community she cared so deeply about.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Wiseman of Dakota City, her devoted sons Brian Uhl of North Sioux City and Tommy (Tracy) Uhl of Ponca. Shirley took great pride in her family, particularly in her grandchildren - Brendan Uhl of Sioux City, Nathan (Carlee) Uhl of Ponca, Sean (Michaela) Uhl of Sioux City, and Chris (Tasha) Uhl of Sioux City - each of whom carry a piece of her spirit within them. The joy of being a great-grandmother was evident in her love for Payton, Violet, Zoey, Chloe, KC, and Tomi. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by a special niece, Brenda, and her sister, Karen.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Sverre and Lena Peterson, as well as a brother and sister.
While her earthly journey has come to an end, the love and memories shared with Shirley will forever illuminate the lives of her family, reminding them of the gift of her presence and the warmth of her heart. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to thrive in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.
