Shirley Woodford, 86, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Shirley was born in Ponca, NE on December 24, 1928, the daughter of Archie and Helen (Iverson) Bottorff. She attended school in Martinsburg, NE for ten years and graduated from Ponca High School. She married Francis "Woody" Woodford on May 5, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. The couple moved to Ponca in 1951. Shirley was a homemaker and the couple operated Woody's Drive In in the mid 60's. She was a volunteer for 4-H and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca.Shirley loved her animals, spending time with her family, and was well known as "Grandma Woody". She was very good at cheating at cards, and taught her children and grandchildren that skill. She will also be remembered for her delicious chicken noodle soup and apple pie.Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Downey of Lawton, IA, Patty (Terrill) Campbell of Belden, NE, Mary (Joe) Ankeny of Dixon, NE, Deb Gerth and special friend, Steve Looft of Marion, SD, Susan (Dave) Brunkow of Portland, OR, and Cheryl Woodford-Rich and husband, Robert Rich, Jr. of Ponca, NE; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine (John) Book of Martinsburg, NE; sisters-in-law, Velma and Leona Bottorff of Ponca, NE; many nieces and nephews; and her special canine companion Ethel.Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Helen Bottorff; her husband, Francis "Woody" Woodford; son, Clark "Spike" Woodford; son-in-law, Raleigh Downey; and brothers, Clayton and Bob Bottorff.
