Stanley Wayne Petersen, a beloved member of the Sioux City community, passed away on December 23, 2024, at Happy Siesta in Remsen, Iowa.

A Funeral Service in honor of Stanley will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, located at 6200 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA 51106, officiated by Chaplain Julie Rolfes. Born on October 10, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Clarence E. and Edna M. (Myers) Petersen, Stanley was a lifelong Sioux City resident whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. Stanley attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Riverside High School. He was a baptized member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where he attended. His early life was characterized by a love for family and friends, with whom he shared countless memories. He had a particular fondness for creative pursuits, including drawing, crafts, and enjoying the nostalgic company of old television shows. His enthusiasm for life was also evident in his appreciation for fellowship and friendship, especially during his time at PACE, where he formed meaningful connections.

A fan of Batman, Stanley had a Batman costume that he wore for Halloween one year. A frequent participant in activities like BINGO, Stanley's interests extended to dining out and spending time with his much-loved pets. In 2020, he moved to Correctionville Specialty Care, where he continued to forge friendships and build a sense of community. Most recently, at Happy Siesta, Stanley experienced the comfort of being treated like family, surrounded by love and support. His last six months at Happy Siesta were very difficult, and the staff of PACE and Happy Siesta were there to comfort him and provide support.

He is survived by his sisters: Linda Benjamin of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Marlene (Larry) Herbst of Bronson, IA, and Patty Murphy of Sergeant Bluff, IA.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Clarence E. and Edna M. Petersen; his brothers Larry and wife Janet Petersen and Edward E. Petersen; brother-in-law Armond Benjamin; and two infant sisters, Diane and Sheryl Petersen. His legacy of warmth, compassion, and unwavering spirit will be remembered dearly by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to thank PACE and Happy Siesta for their compassionate care and love shown to Stanley.
