Steven Clausen, 65, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
The family will be holding a memorial ceremony for Steve on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, at 6:30 p.m. with a visitation hour at 5:30 p.m. Burdett Heithold will be presiding over the memorial service. Steve was born on January 25, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa to Darlene (Davis) and William (Heine) Clausen. He graduated from South Sioux City Senior High School in 1974. Steve was involved in many high school activities including the Dolphin Swim Club, football, wrestling, speech, musicals, plays, as well as extracurriculars such as pool parties at his parents’ house
Steve attended Northwest Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. After graduation he joined the family business, Clausen Electric. Steve continued the business for many years following the death of father.
On June 14, 1980, Steve married his lovely wife Roxane (Meier) Clausen and to this union three children were born, sons Christopher and Chad, and daughter Stephanie. He was a proud and loving husband and father who was happy to share about his children’s and grandchildren’s doings and accomplishments.
Steve was an active member of the South Sioux City community serving as a member of the Jaycees for 15 years, as well as a city council member and on the Dakota County fair board. It is through this community involvement that Steve earned high accolades including becoming a Lifetime Member of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1991, Steve and his family were awarded the National Family of the Year Award with the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Steve was an avid fan of John Wayne, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Chicago Bears. He loved fishing, boating, tubing with his children and their friends, and attending Cornhusker football games with his wife. Steve loved to help others and created a sense of community wherever his travels took him. He was always prepared with a good joke and a big laugh.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Roxane, his sons Christopher and Chad, his daughter Stephanie (Michael Swenson), grandson Dawson (Kayla) Iverson, granddaughters River and Rose Swenson, his sister Kathy Muirhead, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and faithful companion of 13 years, Husker.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Darlene and William (Heine) Clausen, brother Bill Clausen, brother-in-law Marv Muirhead, father-in-law and mother-in-law Donald and Lois Meier and his grandparents.
