Susan Kay Cole, 70, of Sioux City, IA, passed away August 6, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Susan was born on May 13, 1951 in Sibley Iowa to Wilferd and Hermina “Sandy” (VanderVeen) Uden. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School. After high school, she was employed at various places throughout Siouxland including Gateway, Ike’s Bingo & Casino, and Winnavegas. Susan was united in marriage to Dennis Barber and to this union 3 children were born. She later married Douglas Cole, who preceded her in death. She was kind and generous, who loved to meet new people, especially from other countries. She considered everyone family. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports. She was always there to support them and their team and was affectionately known as “Grandma Sue”. She always had her camera in her hand, taking pictures so she could make photo albums as gifts. She enjoyed crafting and was involved in the Renaissance, often dressing up and selling her crafts at the local Renaissance Fair, in which her grandchildren and good friend Alice liked to accompany her. She was also an avid bingo player with her best friend Sharon Fischer.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Scott (Jackie) Barber, Sioux City, Chad (Amy) Barber, Bronson, IA, Benjamin Barber, Anthon, IA; grandchildren: Nathan, Ellie, Toni, Cassy, Dylan, Bailey and Braden; great-grandchildren: Kaydience, Taryn, Rian and Aubrey: brother, Mark Uden, Sioux City; half-sisters: Cindy (Billy) Steele, Sioux City, IA, Julie (Dale) Graves, LeMars, IA; Deann (Rich) Ontiveros, Missouri, and half-brothers Dale (Anita) Uden, Utah, and Kirk (Cherilynn) Uden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ward Orr; husband Doug; half-brother, Ward Orr Jr.; and sister-in-law, Pam Uden.
