Susan "Susie" Feathers, the daughter of Charles "Chuck" and Marie (Metz) Condon, was born on August 30, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa. She passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux City on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 85.
Raised in Sioux City, Susie graduated from Central High School before furthering her education at the University of South Dakota where she earned her teaching degree. She began her career teaching Spanish in the Hinton Community School District and later was a frequent substitute teacher at Heelan and other area high schools. In recent years she maintained her fluency in Spanish by teaching at Western Iowa Tech Community College and serving as a translator for various local healthcare providers. Susie also served for more than 20 years as a board member on the City Assessor’s Board of Review.
On June 24, 1961, Susie married the love of her life, Patrick "Pat" Feathers, in Sioux City and they were blessed with three children. Susie's dedication to her family was particularly evident in the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As an avid quilter and quilt enthusiast one of Susie’s very favorite activities was crafting her original creations as special gifts, and every family member has at least one cherished “Grandma Susie” quilt. Other lucky recipients of Grandma Susie Quilts were her favored charities such as the Siouxland Humane Society, where she often provided them as fundraising auction items.
She was an avid tennis player and an animal lover, and she greatly enjoyed traveling with Pat and the family during their years together. She deeply valued the time spent with her family and friends and will be remembered for her ever-present good cheer and infectious laughter.
Susie is survived by her children: Tim (Kim) Feathers of Overland Park, KS, Mike (Tracy) Feathers of Hinton, IA, and Betsy (John) Campo of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sister, Kathleen "Honey" Saxe of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pat Feathers, brother Charlie (Patricia) Condon, and brother-in-law, Leonard Saxe.
A private service for Susie will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Memorial donations may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society or the Sioux City Art Center.
