Sylvia Josephine Fuller

November 19, 1944 — February 8, 2022

Sylvia Josephine Fuller, 77, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  A visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Sylvia was born November 19, 1944 in Hastings, NE, the daughter of Leonard and Betty (McDonald) Pickering.  She graduated from Emerson High School in Emerson, NE. Following graduation, she worked as a Nurse’s Aid until she married.

Sylvia married Charles Fuller on December 19, 1964 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.  They were married nearly 35 years until his death on October 23, 1999. They had three children; David, Dennis and Lori.  She chose to be a stay at home mom through their elementary years and then went on to earn her LPN from WITCC. She worked at St. Luke's as a nurse for a short time and spent 20 plus years volunteering at the Disabled American Veterans thrift store (DAV).  She was very active in the DAV Auxiliary, serving as District Commander for several years. Sylvia was also a member of the Goodwill Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary.  She has been a long time member of the Girls of ’68, serving as President for two of those years. She was an active member of Rustin Avenue Methodist Church volunteering in many ways.

Sylvia enjoyed genealogy, sewing, quilting, puzzles, and listening to country western music.  She was known to be quite competitive in Cribbage, Zonk and other table games. She loved cats and cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the family.

Survivors include her children David Fuller of Sioux City, Dennis Fuller of Sioux City, and Lori (Bryan) Bush of Cleghorn, IA; grandchildren:  Dustin (Malina) Harris, Laura Holloway, Emily (Eric) Schwickerath, Alex Fuller, Michael Bush, and Megan Bush; many great grandchildren; brothers:  Jim Pickering, George (Carol Ann) Pickering, Lonnie (Leah) Pickering, Fred Pickering, and Mike Pickering; a sister Carol Gulbronson; and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, a sister Dorothy Pickering, and daughters-in-law:  Cindy Fuller, and Sandy Stowe.
