Thomas M. "Tom" Peterson

October 13, 1941 — August 27, 2020

Thomas M. “Tom” Peterson, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 1st at 11:30 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Tom was born October 13, 1941, the son of Irving and Aldine (Wollesen) Peterson in Sioux City, Iowa.  He attended East High School.  Tom honorably served his country in the United States Army.  He was a kind and loving partner to his spouse, Marie Peterson (Heath). They were married on August 5, 1966 and spent 54 wonderful years together. He was an amazing father to their 5 children as they made their home in Bronson, Iowa for 18 years and then moved to Sioux City.

Tom worked for Sioux City Cold Storage for 20 years and then for Northwest Iowa Pork until his retirement.

In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, watching his children and grandchildren’s activities, collecting piggy banks, going on road trips with his wife Marie, reading his newspaper, and cheering for his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.  Tom had an incredible skill with numbers, and he would love to play a game of cribbage with anyone who was brave enough to challenge him.  He loved spending time helping out at the fireworks stand where he would spend countless hours welcoming everyone who entered, managing the staff and always had endless suggestions.  Tom had a great sense of humor and was known to banter with the best of them. He always kept you laughing with his witty comebacks.  After he lost his leg in 2018, he never let it slow him down.  He would love to go out driving and would be gone for hours checking on his favorite spots in Sioux City.

Tom is survived by his wife, Marie, and his children, Jane (Bob) Allen of Arrington, Tennessee, Bill (Jen) Peterson of Sioux City, Jerry Peterson of Sioux City, Debbie (Marc) Jasper of Phoenix, Arizona and Tammy Peterson also of Sioux City. A brother, Jerry (Julie) Peterson of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
