Timothy K. "Tim" Meacham

Timothy K. “Tim” Meacham, 63, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bishop Heelan High School Class of 1974. A time to share stories and memories of Tim will be from 6-7 Friday, August 23, 2019 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Tim was born on February 27, 1956 in Sioux City to William and Mary (Meyer) Meacham. He attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary and graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic School in 1974. He went on to attend Briar Cliff University and then Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, graduating in 1979. He married D’Ete Payne on March 19, 1983 in Fairbury, Nebraska. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish all his life, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tim worked for many years in radio and sports broadcasting. He was a disco DJ at Grandpa’s nightclub in Sioux City in the 70s. In 1979, he began his radio career as a DJ, sportscaster, and sales representative at KGMT/KOOL radio in Fairbury, NE. He worked in radio in cities around Iowa, until 1991 when he moved back to Sioux City. In Sioux City, he worked for Hoak Motors and Condon Auto in sales, until returning to sportscasting at KSCJ in 1995, where he was the voice of local high school sports for many years. His signature expression, “Oh Baby” is still remembered by everyone who followed him on the air. Most recently, he broadcast Heelan Crusader games for KFHC Catholic Radio.

His love for sports did not stop with sportscasting. Tim coached Legion baseball, Schipper Construction women’s fastpitch softball, played men’s fastpitch softball for Marv’s Liquor, and was a Master Umpire for softball and baseball in Fairbury. In Sioux City, Tim coached fastpitch softball, baseball, basketball and football for all four of his children through the years. Especially in baseball, he was a teacher of the game, and loved helping players with their swing, their pitch, their throw. He was a huge fan of the NY Yankees, Indianapolis Colts, Iowa Hawkeyes, Morningside Mustangs, North High Stars, and Heelan Crusaders.

Tim was also a ball player, golfer, and performer himself. From high school musicals to karaoke nights out, from weddings to Bill’s Bar. If he found a stage, a microphone or a pool cue, he was also ready to sing Beatles or Elvis tunes, or just tell stories.

Tim’s kids and grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved watching them follow their passions, be it playing or coaching sports, singing and performing, helping others, or teaching kids. He was so proud of all of them.

Survivors include his spouse, D’Ete Meacham; children: Lori and Troy Frick, Kelsey Meacham, Bill and Selena Meacham, and Blake and Haley Meacham; grandkids: Keisha (Michael Nichols) Eickholt, Kylee Eickholt, and Skyler, Elizabeth, and Christian Frick; siblings: Diana (Curt Quady) Rohlfsen, Peg (Gerry) Nacke, Rick Meacham, Terry (Steve) Sachson, John (Cindy Crosbie) Meacham, and Jeff (Gina) Meacham; aunt and uncle, Mary Kay (Bill) Thompson; aunt, Dorothy Keane; sister-in-law, Deb (Gary) Hill; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Meacham; brother, Billy Meacham; and his grandparents.
