Tomasa Salas, 61, of South Sioux City, NE passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 9, 2013, while surrounded by her family.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE with Father Oscar Perez officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, with a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. She grew up in Texas, graduating from PSJA High School and attended Texas A & M. She then moved to South Sioux City, attended Briar Cliff College, where she earned her B.A. degree and also attended Western Iowa Tech. She worked at LaCasa Latina in Sioux City, IA for ten years before working for NAF Multicultural Center in South Sioux City, NE.She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and worked as the coordinator for Happy Hearts at the South Sioux Senior Center. She received an award for her community service work in South Sioux City. Tomasa enjoyed spending time with her family, helping others and gardening.Survivors include her stepmother, Gladys Guerra of Sioux City, IA; daughters, Stephanie (Kham) Phanthadeth of Phoenix, AZ, Natalie Atkins of Worthing, SD, Anna Salas and Kristen Salas of South Sioux City, NE; grandchildren, Julisa Guerrero, Aqura, Kadin and Gavin Phanthadeth, Adrian, Angel and Avan Salas, Alex and Andy Gomez and Ava Vongsiprasom; brothers and sisters, Jose L. Guerra, Jr., (Rosalinda) of Brownsville, TX, Yolanda Guerra of Sioux City, IA, Francisco (Barbara) Guerra of Murphy, NC, and Mireya (Luis) Guzman of South Sioux City, NE; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.Tomasa was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Margarita Guerra; and one daughter, Evita Salas.
