Val Peltz

Vlasta “Val” Peltz of South Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at a local hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 89.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 22, 2022 at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Father Michael Keating officiating.  Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 5-7 P.M. with a Rosary service at 6:30 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.  Burial will be at St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. 

Val was born on December 13, 1932 in Linwood, NE to Thomas and Vlasta Lorenc.  She graduated from Schuyler High School and later received her certificate in cosmetology.  

On June 2, 1951, she married Richard Peltz in Linwood, NE.  They settled in South Sioux City in 1961.  Together they raised seven children.  Val was an active member of St. Michaels Catholic Church.  Val served in many capacities at church; Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Parish Council, and CCD instructor. 

Val enjoyed baking in her kitchen especially spending time making chocolate chip cookies with her grandchildren.  She frequented many local fields and gyms attending her grandchildren’s activities.  Val took pleasure puttering in her yard and garden and traveled many miles to visit her children and grandchildren. 

Survivors include her children:  Larry (Becky) of Polson, MT, Mary (Dave) Arthur of North Platte, NE, Dan (Jenny) of Loveland, CO, Tom (Taryn) of Seattle, WA, Joan (Jon) Osborn of West Des Moines, IA, Diana (Chad) Lester of South Sioux City, NE and Kathy (Jeremy) Archer of Omaha, NE; grandchildren:  Ben and Brad Peltz, Bonnie (Seth) DeArmoun, John (Anne) Arthur, Katie (Shad) McClain, Alex (Kaitlyn) Arthur, Kyle (Tiffany) Peltz, Kelsey (James) Wertz, Kayla (Scott) Schlagel; Tarah Peltz, Katie Osborn, Cory (Vicki) Osborn, Sarajane Alverson, TJ (Teresa) Osborn, Jessie (Ace) Ford, Ryan Osborn, Jordan (Danielle) Lester, Jaylee (Nolan) Niehus, Jacob, Owen, and Wyatt Archer; and 22 great grandchildren.

Val was preceded in death by her parents, husband, in-laws, and her grandsons Joshua Lester and Don DeArmoun.
