Van D. Hanson, 54, of South Sioux City, NE, formerly of Allen, NE passed away at a Sioux City hospital on August 1, 2013 after a two year battle with Supranuclear Palsey.Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin one hour prior to the service. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Van was born on August 16, 1958 in Winner, SD, the son of Donald and Jolene (Burnham) Hanson. He graduated from Allen High School, then attended Northeast Community College from 1977 to 1979, earning a degree in electronics. He moved to Omaha, NE where he worked for several years in the computer field at Control Data. Van attended Bellevue College night school and graduated in 1988 with a degree in business administration, while working in the insurance business for thirty years as an independent agent in his own company.Van loved to work and spent many hours helping his clients. He was very much a sports enthusiast. Golfing was his passion. He earned trophies in golf, bowling, racket ball, pool, trap shooting, road rally with his brother, and sky diving.Survivors include his mother, Jolenne Nelson; brothers Mark (Cindy) Hanson, Troy (Rhonda) Nelson and TJ (Jamie) Nelson; sisters, Kimberly (Kelly) Hansen and Jil McCorkindale and her special friend, Curt Bush; very special friends and caregivers, Veronica Smith, Leann Hinkel and Cassandra Foster.Van was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis and Melba Burnham; and his father, Donald V. Hanson.
