Vera Mae Hanna, 92, of Sioux City passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at a local care center.
Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, December 2, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Kenny Hsu officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Vera was born January 26, 1929 in Emery, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Anna (Drewitz) Jaton. She graduated from high school in Parkston, South Dakota in May of 1946 and attended the Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD. Vera married William R. Hanna on May 10, 1953 in Mitchell, SD. To this union, five children were born. Bill preceded Vera in death on November 17, 2021 in Sioux City. Vera was a registered nurse for St. Joseph Hospital for 20 years and also cofounded Siouxland Scale Service with her husband and worked with family until retirement. Vera enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and spending time with her family on the farm. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children: Richard (Capistrana) Hanna of Pleasant Hill, IA, Lori (Mark) Treft of Sioux City, William Jr. (Christiane) Hanna of Sioux City, Timothy (Lisa) Hanna of Sioux City, and Gary (Elizabeth) Hanna of Sioux City; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and a sister Carol Poulson of Casper, WY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Florance Young, LaVerna Heisinger, Gene Jaton, Isabelle Smith, Norm Stahl, Glen Jaton, Wayne Jaton, and Sylvia Larson.
Memorials may be given to the St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Vera’s memory.
