Vera Marie Moody

Vera Marie Moody, 94 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the Sunrise Retirement Community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Mater Dei, Nativity Catholic Church. Rev. Bred Pelzel will officiate. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the Nativity Parish Center. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Vera was born November 26, 1927 in Lynch, NE; she was the daughter of Casper and Mary (Besmer) Haselhorst.  Vera graduated from Lynch High School.

On June 16, 1948, Vera married Berl Clinton Moody. They lived in Lynch, NE until 1959 when they moved to Sioux City. Vera taught schools around Lynch, NE from 1944 to 1949, she taught at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Sioux City from 1972 to 1990 and then worked at Apple Tree Day Care from 1992 until retiring in 2012 at the age of 85.

Vera was a longtime member of Nativity Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild as well as the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed baking, crocheting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Doug (Lori) Moody, Emery (Rosie) Moody, Marcelyn (Bill) Benson, Mary Ann Sargent and Brad (Denise) Moody; her sister Joyce Audiss, 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Berl and her son-in-law Kevin Sargent.
