Veronica G. "Verna" Johnson

Veronica G. “Verna” Johnson, 94, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at a local care facility.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Laurel City Cemetery in Laurel, Nebraska. 

Verna was born April 1, 1927 in Dixon County, Nebraska, the daughter of Thomas and Elsie (French) Duffy.  She was united in marriage to Vern Johnson.  He preceded her in death on May 31, 2016.  Verna taught middle school English for 25 plus years for the Sioux City Community Schools.  She and Vern also owned a motel in South Sioux City and a resort in Spicer, Minnesota. 

Survivors include her son Michael Duff of Sioux City; five grandsons:  Nick, Robbie, Eric, Shane, and Pat; and 8 great grandchildren.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Rupple, grandson Ryan, and brothers:  Earl and Lyle Duffy.
