Victoria K. “Vicky” Carlson, 92, of Sioux City, IA passed away April 2, 2025, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Thomas Orthodox Church with Priest Reverend Father Kevin Kirwan officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. with a Trisagion Service at 6:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery. Vicky was a life-long member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church.
Vicky was born on September 15, 1932, in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Sadie (Gossen) Koury. She graduated from Central High School in 1951.
A lifelong Sioux City resident, Vicky worked at Northwestern Bell from 1951-1983 and JC Penney from 1984-2009. Vicky enjoyed working hard throughout her life and didn’t end employment until she was 76. She became a well-known figure in the community due to her numerous interactions with her customers at JC Penney and Northwestern Bell.
Vicky married the love of her life, Ron Carlson, on June 9, 1957, in Sioux City, IA. Vicky loved her husband Ron so much and she enjoyed telling everyone how they were set up on a blind date. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in June. Family was first and foremost in her life. She was very proud of her children Jeff and Nancy, and grandchildren Laura, Claire and Hannah. She prioritized her life around her family. She loved following the various activities of her grandchildren (“the girls”). In addition, Vicky treasured spending time with her friends and special neighbors.
Vicky also loved living by the motto “do it now” so much that she received gifts with this phrase.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Ron Carlson of Sioux City; Son, Jeff (Terri) of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Nancy (Phil) Dehn of Omaha, NE; Grandchildren, Laura (Josef) Ghaussy, of Omaha, NE, Claire Carlson, of Omaha, NE, and Hannah Dehn of Omaha, NE; Nieces and nephews: Randy (Jody) Carlson, Sally (Ron) Gray, Michael (Lisa) Koury, Neysa (Karl) Hornyik.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Sadie Koury and a brother David Koury.
Pallbearers will be Frank Brienzo, Pat Corey, Gerry Stevens, Dick Stone, Mike Jacobs, Josef Ghaussy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community, in Sioux City, Iowa in Vicky’s memory.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Retirement Community and St. Croix Hospice for their special care of Vicky.
