Vieneta Mekdara

Vieneta Mekdara, 64, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at a local nursing home.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Vieneta was born on December 10, 1954 in Laos to Thongdam and Phomma Mekdara.  He served in the Laos military before moving to the United States.  He was united in marriage to Somphor Choummany.  She preceded him in death on January 5, 2014.  Vieneta was a happy go lucky man who enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was a member of the Lao Buddhist Temple of Siouxland.

Those left to honor his memory include his sons: Khamsiane (Manivone) Mekdara, of Elgin, IL, Phiane (Chanphen) Mekdara, of Des Moines, IA, Sisangviane Mekdara, of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Sangvang Mekdara, of Sergeant Bluff, IA; sisters;  Nam Boua Phan Chanthavong and Ka Mekdara; nephew, Seng (La) Chanthavong; niece, Nouay (Lamyai) Akanhay; grandchildren: Alysia, Elias, Isaac and Kal.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Somphor; 4 brothers and a sister.

Pallbearers will be Sisangviane Mekdara, Elias Vongsaly, Isaac Mekdara and Phiane Mekdara.
