It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vieng Saengthammavong, affectionately known as Noi and Euy Noi, who departed this life on Friday, January 31, 2025, at her residence in South Sioux City, NE, following a brave battle with cancer. Born on March 26, 1959, in Vientiane, Laos, Vieng’s journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Vieng “Noi” was the matriarch of her family and a remarkable individual whose wisdom, kindness, and generosity were felt by everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was united in marriage in 1975 to Kongkham Saengthammavong and together they forged a life filled with warmth and togetherness. In pursuit of a better life, the family embarked on a journey that saw them move from Laos to Thailand with their son Kai and their daughter Koung, and later to the Philippines, where they welcomed their youngest daughter, Pheuspha, in a refugee camp. The family eventually made their way to the United States in 1986, establishing their home in South Sioux, NE.
A dedicated employee, Vieng “Noi” worked at I.B.P. (now Tyson Foods) from 1986 until January of 2025. Despite her professional commitments, her heart always belonged to her family. She found great joy in raising her children—Kai, Koung, and Pheuspha—and helped nurture her grandchildren, being proud of the contributions she made to their lives. Her commitment to family was her proudest accomplishment.
In her leisure time, Vieng “Noi” embraced a variety of hobbies that brought joy not only to her but also to those around her. She was an enthusiastic cook, an engaging storyteller, and she loved music, singing, and dancing. Most of all, she cherished quality moments spent in the company of her family and friends. A woman of deep faith, she was also an active member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where she found a community that further enriched her life.
Vieng “Noi” is survived by her loving husband, Kongkham; their three children: Kai (Kom), and their children, Kyle, Kayla, and Nickolas; Koung, and her daughter Ava; Pheuspha (Darrin), and their children, Mason, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Isabella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Savath and Bounmi Khamdyrath, and her brother Kenny Khamdyrath.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Vieng “Noi” will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City, IA with Pastor Tom LoVan officiating. The service will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Graceland Park Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of strength, love, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were touched by her life.
