Viola Wilhelmina VanTuyl Bailey

December 14, 1922 — March 31, 2021

Viola Wilhelmina VanTuyl Bailey, 98, of Cadillac, Michigan, and formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at her residence following a lengthy illness. A memorial service is pending in Cadillac, Michigan, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Division Street.  Pastor Ariel Roldan will be officiating. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. The funeral will be live streamed for those unable to attend physically at the following link:https://youtu.be/h3ObMA4Qlyk Pastor Patrick Milligan of the Muskogee, Oklahoma, Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 P.M. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the funeral home. Viola was born on December 14, 1922, in Middletown, Iowa. She attended Seventh-day Adventist Church schools through the 10th grade.  On January 25, 1947, she married Raymond Victor Bailey in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Raymond passed away on December 24, 1992, in Sioux City.

 

Viola lived across Iowa and Nebraska before her move to Michigan. Her years in Iowa included Middletown, Weaver, Augusta, Burlington, Osceola, and finally Sioux City from 1946-1993. She then lived in Lincoln, Nebraska from 1993-2000. From there, she moved to Owosso, Michigan, where she lived until 2008. Her final move was to Cadillac, Michigan, in August of 2008 where she remained until her passing.

 

Viola worked in various occupations throughout her life.  She worked as a mother’s helper, at Schram Overall Factory,  a private nurse aide, babysitter, for the Midwest Biscuit Company, a homemaker from 1947-1964, for Green Acres Nursing Home in South Sioux City from 1964-1990, and finally as a volunteer worker at the Owosso SDA Church School in Owosso, Michigan, from 2000-2008.

 

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and held many positions within the church which included: Home and school leader, Sabbath school leader, and Deaconess.

 

In her free time, Viola enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, and embroidery.

 

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Linda Maurer (Roy) of Burleson, TX; Lanette Brandow (David) of Cadillac, MI; Debora Petersen (Roger) of Buckeye, AZ; and Tamera Hasty (Adam) of Lyons, MI; her son: Raymond Van Bailey (Valynda) of Purvis, MS; grandchildren: Roy Maurer, Jr. (Denny), Janell Maurer Via, Amber Brandow Medina (Tino), Jason Brandow, Shonna Petersen Parker (Sonny), Michael Petersen (Kelley), Matthew Hasty (Amanda), Sara Hasty Koorenny (Robert), Emily Hasty Weaver (Drew), Brian Bailey (Karrie), and Bradley Bailey; great-grandchildren: Cassidy Via, Abigail Via, Aarial Medina Schreiner (Eric), Marcus Medina, Alex Medina, Joshua Yost, Christopher Yost, Alex Petersen, Ben Petersen, Jada Weaver, Eliisa Hasty, Josiah Koorenny, Adelyn Bailey, and Landon Bailey.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Victor Bailey; her parent: Harry Howard VanTuyl and Anna Rose VanTuyl; sisters:   Helen Marie Stigge and Dorothy May Smutzer; brothers:  Kenneth Henry VanTuyl, Leonard Howard VanTuyl, Floyd George VanTuyl, and Mark Edward VanTuyl.

 

Pallbearers will be Bradley Bailey, Brian Bailey, David Brandow, Jason Brandow, Matthew Hasty, and Roger Petersen.
