Virgil A. Newberg, Jr., 87, of rural Hinton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the United Methodist Church of Hinton. Pastor Beth Odor will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Virgil was born on October 29, 1935 in Sioux City, to Virgil and Lillian (Weinrich) Newberg. He grew up on a farm near Hinton, and graduated from Liberty Consolidated School.
He worked with his father and brother in farming, both dairy and livestock. Virgil served in the United States Army in 1958 and 1959.
Virgil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hinton and the Plymouth County Cattlemen Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his sister, Beverly Albers (Dale) of Hinton; nephew and nieces: Eric Newberg (Lori), Melissa Lencki (Larry), Shelly Mohl (Mark), and Michael Albers (Tammy); great-nephew and nieces: Jonathan and Jennifer Newberg, Cassidy Molitor (Trevor), and McKenzie Mohl; great- great-niece, Adalynn Molitor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lillian Newberg; brother, Norman Newberg and his wife Johneen.
