Virgil M. Rasmussen

Virgil M. Rasmussen, 72, of Emerson, NE passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at a local hospital.Celebration of Life will be at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.Virgil was born December 22, 1945 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Ralph and Maxine (Ruschmann) Rasmussen. He grew up in the Emerson area and graduated from Emerson-Hubbard High School before taking auto mechanics at Universal Trade School in Omaha, NE. Virgil married his high school sweetheart, Irene Skow in 1964 in Emerson. He drove and worked on school buses for the Emerson-Hubbard School District, worked at Beermann Bros. Dehy from 1969 to 1975, then farmed on the home place East of Emerson.He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Emerson, and loved fishing, farming, doting on the grandchildren, and customizing toy tractors.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Irene Rasmussen; children, Ilene (Michael) Hofmeister and Troy Rasmussen; grandchildren, Taylor (Nick) Zimmerman, Everett Hofmeister and fiancé, Ashton Pedersen; siblings, DeWayne Rasmussen (Carol), Gaylen (Tracy) Rasmussen, and Diana (Douglas) Sarubbi; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Maxine Rasmussen.
