Wayne Lilla, a longtime resident of Sioux City, died from dementia on Monday March 14, 2022 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3012 Jackson St. Sioux City. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home at 3220 Stone Park Blvd in Sioux City, with a rosary at 5:00 and a chalice service and prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Wayne was born on April 27, 1943 in Pulaski, Wisconsin, the son of Stanley and Victoria (Zawitaj) Lilla. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1961 and served in the Air Force from 1962-1966. He worked at Mullin Awning & Siding as Warehouse Manager starting in 1966 until his retirement in 2013.
Wayne married his beloved wife Sue Mullin on July 31, 1965 in Sioux City. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage with 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
During retirement Wayne was very active. He volunteered at Mercy Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department filing and running errands. He served lunches at Blessed Sacrament mostly as an excuse to see his granddaughters daily. He loved attending his grandchildren's soccer matches, band concerts, musicals, and all Grandparents Day activities.
Wayne loved working on puzzles, gardening, woodworking, coffee, and was an owner of the Green Bay Packers (Go Pack Go!)
Wayne had a devotion to his faith. Every day he prayed the Liturgy of the Hours, and he had a love for all things St Pope John Paul who was canonized on his birthday. He was an active member of Holy Cross Parish Blessed Sacrament where he served as an Eucharistic Minister and volunteered as a money counter. He was a charter member and longtime Financial Secretary of the Monsignor Newman Flanagan Council 11038 of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th Degree member of the Garrigan Assembly of the Knights of Columbus.
Wayne is survived by his wife Sue Mullin Lilla, children Shelly (Craig) Kratz, Brian Lilla, Karen (George) Watterson. Grandchildren Nicole Kratz, Jessica Kratz, Ryan Watterson, and Landon Watterson. Sisters Ruth (Rusty) Burmeister and Alice Burmeister. Sister-in-law Sue Sackley Mullin and brother-in-law Tom (Marigail) Mullin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Don and Dorothy Mullin and brothers in law John Burmeister and Rick Mullin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the memory care unit at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Holy Cross-Blessed Sacrament, or Bishop Heelan Fine Arts Department.
