Wayne D. Wendte, 68, of Sioux City, IA passed away at his residence while surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 26, 2013.Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Merrill Muller of Merrill First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 30, 2013 beginning at 5:00 P.M, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.Wayne was born in Ponca, NE on September 13, 1945, the son of Roy and Donna (Martinsen) Wendte. He graduated from Emerson High School in Emerson, NE. Wayne farmed before working in maintenance at IBP/Tyson. He married Kay Spreng in the gazebo in the North Sioux City Park on December 20, 2004. Wayne retired in April, 2006, after he suffered a stroke.Wayne loved gardening, stationary engine repair, attending auctions and thrashing bees, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Kay Wendte of Sioux City, IA; children, Sue Wendte and her friend, Skylar and Mike (Connie) Wendte of South Sioux City, NE, Steve (Michelle) Wendte and Gary Wendte of Sioux City, IA; Mike (Veronica) Spreng of Aurora, NE, Michelle Sininger and her friend, Doug of Omaha, NE, Matt Spreng and Marty Spreng of Sioux City, IA; 23 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Kim) Wendte of South Sioux City, NE and Mark (Kris) Wendte of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Pam Wendte of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Donna Wendte; step-father, Andy Anderson; and 3 brothers, Roger, Ron and Darreld Wendte.
