Wesley Schram, 99 of Ponca passed away at his residence on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Nebraska with Pastor Dennis Ritchey officiating. Private family burial will precede the funeral. Visitation with the family present will begin at the church at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 1, 2009 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Services are under the direction of the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Wesley was born March 5, 1910 in rural Newcastle, the son of Charles and Petra (Christensen) Schram. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1928 and then attended Morningside College. He married Mildred Heikes on June 2, 1938 in rural Dakota County, Nebraska. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year. He owned a farm and sawmill in the Obert area before moving to Ponca in 1957, where he also owned a sawmill. He retired in 1986 but continued woodworking until his death.Wes loved the Lord and received Christ as his Savior early in his life. He was active in church and Sunday School throughout his life. He loved to read his Bible and strived to live his life pleasing his Savior.He was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, music, traveling and senior citizens' activities. He also played the violin.Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Ponca; children, Jean, Mark (Karen), Beth (Caleb) Foulks, Tim (Pam), all of Ponca; Edna Lou (Bernie) Kionka, and Dan (Michele) both of Denver, CO; Nancy (Terry) Jones of LaJunta, CO; Joyce Reimer of Plattsmouth, NE; Ralph (Connie) of Alma Center, WI; Charles (Julie) of South Sioux City, NE; daughter-in-law Wanda Schram of South Sioux City, NE; 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Rowenna Erbach of Lincoln.Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, son, Samuel; son-in-law, Roy Reimer; brothers, Donald, Herbert and Anson Schram; sisters, Iola Pennington, Esther Humphrey, Ruth Penington.
