William (Bill) August Krause of Homer, NE joined the Lord on September 22, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. He left this world peacefully at sunset with his family by his side. Bill's recent months were spent at Regency Square, where he received tender love and care from his family, as well as nursing staff.Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. John Pehrson of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial with military rites by the Homer American Legion will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the funeral home.Bill was the son of William August Krause and Rosa (Johns) Krause. He was born on October 13, 1930 at Winnebago, NE. He served in the Army (Korea) from 1952 to 1954 and returned to marry Donna Marie Hillegas on February 25, 1955. Bill farmed and raised livestock with his wife Donna in Winnebago for 19 years, and was injured in a farm accident on October 21, 1974, left paralyzed, and spent the remainder of his life in a wheel chair. He said, "They totaled the tractor, but they didn't total me."Bill was a member of the Homer Legion, serving as adjutant. He was a member of the Homer town board, and was involved in many town events. A beloved member of his community, Bill's hard work and independence inspired those around him. He enjoyed the freedom his three-wheeler gave him, taking many trips to the countryside independently, as well as with his wife and grandchildren. Bill was a man that was never defined by his circumstances - he was a three wheel ridin', wheely-popping, loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed greatly by everyone who was lucky enough to know him.He is survived by his wife; 2 children, a son Mark (Janet) Krause of Phoenix, AZ, and a daughter Ann Jenkins (David Swanson) of Sioux City, IA; 6 grandchildren - 2 grandsons, Rodney Jenkins and William (Melissa) Krause; 4 granddaughters, Brooke (Christopher) Hines, Vanessa Krause, Melissa (Daryl Jr.) LaPointe, and Kristi Jenkins (Anthoney Ellis); and one sister, Helen (Harold) Hultquist.He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Albert, Carl, Melvin, Clarence, Paul and Robert; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Schincke, Carrie Nieman and Norma Jean Knecht.
