William "Bill" Joseph McGowen

William Joseph “Bill” McGowen, 90 of Hubbard, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 in Jackson, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hubbard with Father Paul Albenesius as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Dixon, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4th at the church in Hubbard, with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com William (Bill) was born on April 9, 1932 to Patrick Joseph (PJ) McGowen and Rose Foley. He lived and grew up in Newcastle, Jackson and South Sioux City. There were 4 children: Jack, who died as a child, Patsy (Mahaney) deceased, Bill and Marguarette (Margie) deceased. He graduated from Hubbard High School. Then he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1950-1954. While in the service he married Marilyn (Harty) deceased on July 3, 1954 for 64 years. He received a B.A. degree in Education from Wayne St. College. He has worked around the area as a welder with construction companies, a truck driver for Olson Farms in Dakota City, Ne. A farmer in Hubbard where he lived. He was an elementary teacher in Winnebago, Dakota City and at Webster elementary school in Sioux City. He and Marilyn enjoyed square and round dancing for years. He also bowled and enjoyed word working. Bill would help a lot of neighbors over the years as well as knowing how to do a lot of items on anybody's ‘honey do list’. He will always be remembered and loved for his huge heart and giving nature. He was a story-teller who remembered the people and history of our area for the last 90 years. Bill is survived by his daughter Kristy McGowen (Olathe, KS). Special grandchildren Justin Woltman (Ponca, NE) Natalie Johnson Woltman (Oakland, NE), Lee Woltman (Hemingford, NE.) Brandon Woltman, (Aubrey, Texas); Several nieces and nephews from Walthill, Homer, Papillion NE. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, daughter Kathy, son Danny, sisters and parents.
