William G. Rockwell

William G. Rockwell, 88, of Ponca, NE passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Gretna, NE.Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Andrew L. Sohm serving as celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary at South Creek Cemetery in rural Ponca, with military rites by the Ponca American Legion. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 with a rosary recited at 6:30 P.M. and a vigil service immediately following at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Bill was born in Ponca, NE on June 1, 1926, the son of Albert and Gertrude Rockwell. He attended rural Dixon County schools. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth. The couple worked together on the family farm until retiring in 2010, when they moved from the farm to Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, IA. Elizabeth passed away on December 22, 2014 in Sioux City.He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Ponca American Legion, and was very active in many organizations in the area.Bill is survived by a son, Bob (Maureen) Rockwell of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth; two brothers, Bob and Merle; and four sisters, Marge, Maxine, Mary and Jean.
