William Sachau

January 26, 1923 — June 19, 2008

William "Bill" Sachau, 85, of rural Allen, Nebraska, passed away on Thurday, June 19, 2008 at a Sioux City hospital.Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. Father Paul Albenesius if officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Jackson American Legion, Harty-McNally Post 175. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Emerson, Nebraska. Bill was born on January 26, 1923 in rural Anthon, Iowa, the son of Chris and Elizabeth (Mahler) Sachau. He attended school in rural Correctionville and Anthon, Iowa. He served during World War II in the United States Army from January 1943 and was honorably discharged in March, 1946. He was in the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge. Bill received a Victory Medal and also a Purple Heart. After the service he farmed in Iowa. Bill married Teresa Flammang on January 19, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, Nebraska. The couple farmed south of Emerson, Nebraska for two years, then moved east of Allen, Nebraska and farmed for two years. In 1953 the couple moved to the farmed they presently own and operate. Bill enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends, farming and raising his Angus cattle.Bill was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska, the Jackson American Legion, Harty-McNally Post 175 and Martinsburg Vernon Gasser VFW Post 5435.Bill is survived by his wife Teresa of Allen, Nebraska, two daughters; Connie and her husband Gary Miller of Spingfield, South Dakota and Cathy Tellinghusen of Martinsbury, Nebraska, two sons; Bill and Micky Sachau of Allen, Nebraska and Kent and his wife Tina Sachau of Martinsburg, Nebraska, 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews.Bill was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Julius, Rudolph, John, Earl and infant Alfred Sachau, three sisters; Anna Joy, Blanche Herron and Emily Dyer, two son-in-laws; Ronald Starwalt and LeRoy Tellinghusen, one niece and two nephews.
