Willie was born the son of James and Mary (Walker) Metcalf on May 25, 1950 in De Valls Bluff, Arkansas. His parents divorced and his father James, married Loretta Whitehurst upon moving to Muncie, Indiana. Willie attended elementary and junior high school in Muncie. As a child he was a member of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ in Muncie. He graduated from Muncie South Side class of 1969. In high school Willie was a champion wrestler, played offense and defense for the South Side Rebels football team, and ran track as a short distance sprinter.  As a young adult Willie was an avid motorcycle rider and enthusiast.

He was employed with Warner Gear and for the Transit System of Muncie. Willie married Berniece Mullins in 1970. To that union three children were born.  While in Muncie, Willie played semi-pro football for the Muncie Warriors before moving to Sioux City for a job opportunity in 1985.

Willie married Nancy Mugge on September 2, 1995 in Sioux City, Iowa.  He worked as a concrete finisher for TBJ Construction Company and L & L Builders. Willie was owner & operator of Uncle Willie's Cookie Factory. He was co-owner and operator of Three Brothers Barbeque & Catering Company. Willie also worked as the maintenance man for Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Metcalf took great pride in being the care taker of the Lord's house.

Willie loved to cook and entertain family & friends. An invite to Willie & Nancy's annual Super Bowl parties were coveted, because you knew you would be taking home some of Willie's food.  He was known for his baking and barbeque. Summers meant a trip back home to Muncie to barbeque and cook for family reunions. He enjoyed cooking for people and often said that cooking was his love language.

Willie & Nancy enjoyed annual cruises with Mt. Zion's Marriage Ministry. They cruised every winter to the Caribbean and truly enjoyed all the islands offered. The bonds formed with the couples they traveled with are some of the Metcalf's most treasured relationships.

Willie was a longtime member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  He was an active Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. Willie was also a member of the Pastor's Aide. He served for many years as a Junior Laymen Supervisor. He would cook and prepare food for the young boys during their overnight outings. Those young men benefitted from his infinite wisdom and Godly example. Deacon Metcalf was always loyal and faithful and truly lived out the mission of the church. If you had the pleasure of meeting Willie, you knew all of his conversations were centered around the Lord and you were sure to be added to his prayer list.
