Willis E. Schultz, 88 of South Sioux City, NE passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial with military rites will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Martinsburg, NE. Visitation with the family present will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the funeral home.Willis was born on December 20, 1927 in Martinsburg, NE, the son of Fred and Edna (Schaefer) Schultz. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Allen High School in 1945. He attended trade school in Omaha, NE. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, attaining the rank of sergeant while stationed in Germany with the 978th Ordnance Depot. Willis married Arlene Mattes on December 27, 1955 in Martinsburg, NE. They farmed west of Martinsburg and were blessed with 2 children, Karen and Victor. Arlene passed away on August 6, 1993. Willis married Gloria Bruggeman on July 29, 1994 in Martinsburg, NE. They settled in Martinsburg and later moved to South Sioux City, NE, where he worked maintenance for HyVee.He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. He was also a member of the Martinsburg Vernon Gasser VFW Post 5435, the Martinsburg Rural Fire Department, and served on the school board and township board. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards and golfing.Survivors include his children, Karen (Don) Helberg and Vic (Cherie) Schultz; step-children, Cindy (Lee) Ford, Jean Orr, Ken (Laura) Bruggeman, Jim Bruggeman (Penny Rosfjord), Jenny Bruggeman; step-son-in-law, Randy McDonald; 1 grandson, Tyler King; 24 step-grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter, Brooklynn King; 25 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister, Marilyn Mohr, brother, Lawrence "Fritz" Schultz (Judy Payne); sisters-in-law, Lorene Moyse (Dale Anderson) Lavonne (Allan) Bauman; brothers-in-law, LeRoy Sailors (Linda) and Doyle (Eileen) Sailors; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Schultz; his parents, Fred (Edna) Schultz; step-mother, Clara Schultz; brothers-in-law, Don Mohr, Jr., Don Sailors and sister-in-law, Belva Earnest; step-daughter, Kathy McDonald; and step-son-in-law, Wesley Orr, Jr.In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the family for memorial determinations to be made at a later date.
