Xom Phonephakdy, 60, of South Sioux City, NE passed away at a Sioux City hospital on Monday, April 13, 2015.Services will be held at 1:00 P.M on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.Xom was born on September 1, 1954 in Ban Yoi Hai, Laos, the son of Bouachan and Phommee Phonephakdy. He married Bouakham Mangkhala on February 25, 1974. In 1979 he and his family fled to the Nong Khai refugee camp in Thailand, where they lived for two years. They moved to the United States in 1981 as refugees, landing in Port Arthur, Texas. The family then moved to South Sioux City, NE in October, 1983 and Xom worked at IBP/Tyson. Xom was proud to become a United States Citizen in 2010.He loved fishing, grilling out, karaoke, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Bouakham; children, Touy Gusty, Lae (Michaela) Phonephakdy, Chanthala (Mike) Hiserote, Laly Bee (Sombat) Yodprasit and Anny Phonephakdy; grandchildren, Akira, Peyton, Aubrey, London, Tyryn, Addyson, Analy, Koden, Ava, Cody and Diana; one brother, Samane and his family in Thailand; and a special aunt, Som and all her family in Arkansas.Xom was preceded in death by his parents, Bouachan and Phommee; and two siblings.
