Alice G. Campbell

April 22, 1924 — April 18, 2021

Alice G. Campbell, 96, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of South Sioux City, NE passed away April 18, 2021 in Lincoln.  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 21 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home 1431 W. 29TH ST in South Sioux City.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery.  The service will be live streamed at HTTPS://youtu.be/AWobXQcIEgc and online condolences may be made to  www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Alice was born on April 22, 1924 in Clayton Township-Perry County, Ohio to William and Rebecca (Zimmerman) Griffith, the third of seven children.  After high school she worked at a fiberglass factory to assist in the war effort.  She worked hard to earn her tuition money.  She was a proud graduate of Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  Alice was working as an elementary school teacher in Ohio when she met her future husband at a YMCA square dance.  Lee B. Campbell and Alice were united in marriage on June 1, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio.  To this union 3 children were born.  The couple lived in Wyoming and Lincoln, NE before moving to South Sioux City in 1961.  They loved traveling and visited nearly every state.  She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was in the choir and was an officer in the United Methodist Women.  Alice was a Girl Scout leader, on the board of the Sioux Trails Girl Scout Council, a member of the PTA and a 4-H Leader.  She enjoyed watching Ohio State football, gardening, birdwatching, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and collecting cook books. 

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters: Jean (Bruce) Calahan, Lincoln, NE, Janice (Rob) Meyer, Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren: Katie (Scott) Bennett, John (Autumn) Calahan, Rebecca Calahan, Emilee Calahan, Robert (Sloane) Meyer, Amy (Eric) Hensley; great-grandchildren: Craig and Zachary Bennett; sister, Catherine Daniels, Cincinnati, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Jonathan Campbell; and 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Donations may be made in Alice’s name to Wesley Chapel, Somerset, OH.; St. Paul UMC, South Sioux City, NE.; or New Visions UMC, Lincoln, NE.
