Peggy was born on January 13, 1957 to Gerald and Josephine (Kneifl) McGinty in Norwalk, CA. Her family moved back to Nebraska in the summer of 1968. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1975. She attended dental assistant school at Omaha College of Health Careers and was a dental assistant for Dr. Jerry Smith in South Sioux City for five and a half years. In January 1981, she started undergraduate school at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She was accepted into UNMC Dental School in Lincoln in 1983, and graduated in 1987. She was an associate dentist in Ponca, NE for five years and then purchased the practice, where she continued to practice as the dentist in Ponca until early retirement in 2011.
In Peggy's pursuit to live life to the fullest, she loved to travel and see the world. She loved ping pong and a good competition. It was known that she had a ping pong table in her Dental Office and if you could beat her, you would receive a discount on your dental work. She was an amazing racquetball player and would give anyone a run for their money. One past time that was near and dear to her heart was musical chairs. There was not a gathering where this wasn't played.
Peggy was very active in the pro-life movement and wanted to be a voice for the voiceless. In her witnessing outside the abortion clinic, she saved many babies lives. She was also instrumental in the opening of Mary’s Choice. Peggy never had any children of her own but she fostered 14 children within a 10 year period. She loved each of them: Austin, Ricky and Elizabeth, Margarita, Ernesto, Carlina and Joyce, Jessica and Jules, Tara, Andy and Deandrea, Venus and Mia. Another one of Peggy's big accomplishments was spreading the faith on an even greater level by working with many people to bring Catholic Radio to the Siouxland area (88.1 FM).
Peggy always knew her purpose in life. It was to bring others closer to Christ and His Mother Mary. They were a part of every aspect of her life and she emulated Their love. Towards the end of Peggy's life, she truly became a victim soul who fought the good fight all up until the very end. Peggy passed away at the hospital with family and a priest by her side at the 3 o’clock Divine Mercy hour.
Survivors include her siblings: Patrick McGinty (Cynthia) of Crofton, NE; Casey McGinty of South Sioux City; Christopher McGinty (Robin) of South Sioux City; and Kathleen Martin (Lance) of South Sioux City; Daughter (Niece): Jessica Henderson (Philip) of Dakota City; Nieces and Nephews: Tymond, Aaron, Nicole, Ryan, Christina, John, Khloe, Kendall, Karsten, Katianne, and Kyle; Granddaughter (Great Niece), Emory Henderson; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Gerald in 2000, and Josephine in 2016; and a brother, Kelly, in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peggy’s name may be directed to: Mary’s Choice, 4415 Stone Avenue, Sioux City, IA 51106.
