Ella Augusta Swanson passed away on August 24, 2022, at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ella was born in Akron, Iowa, on February 28, 1926 to Otto and Emma (Schwarting) Popken. She grew up on a farm near Akron, after which she moved to Sioux City where she took employment at IPS, the power company. She met her beloved husband Gordon in Sioux City, and they were married on April 15, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They went on to be married for 67 years.  Ella was a devoted wife and mother.  She was also a member of Isis Chapter of Eastern Star and served as secretary for more than twenty-five years. Ella spent much time in volunteer work at Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Luke’s Hospital. She and Gordon were master gardeners and members of the Iris Society.  Ella and Gordon enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips abroad.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gordon R. Swanson, and her son Craig C. Swanson. Also, her parents, brother Bill, and sisters Gertrude, and Lenora.

She is survived by her son Scott (Kat), granddaughter Erica (Will) Hancock, and great grandson Jaxon.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Abu Bekr Shriners to support their services with the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
