Jack A. Sorensen

Jack A. Sorensen, 91, of Dakota Dunes passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at a local care center.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2022 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with Neil Peck, CLS officiating.  Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home.  Family burial will be at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jack was born November 2, 1931 in rural Shelby County, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Alberta (Hack) Sorensen.  He graduated from Harlan High School and the Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado.  Jack served in The United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War.  After leaving the Air Force in 1953, he went to work for Avco Financial Services Inc. and retired from Avco after twenty-six years.  During his time, he was a branch manager, a district supervisor, and then as a Personnel and Training Director. 

Jack married Sally Alstott on September 3, 1977.  In 1979, Jack went to work for Dakota County State Bank (now F&M Bank) in South Sioux City, NE.  In 1981 he was promoted to President and CEO and retired from this position in January 1997. 

Jack was active in the community and he served on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Home of Nebraska, Better Business Bureau, Crime Stoppers, Cardinal Education Foundation, and the United Way.  He was past president of The South Sioux City Chamber, South Sioux City Kiwanis, Dakota Industrial Development, and Siouxland Partner Foundation.  He was a member of the Omadi Lodge #5, Scottish Rite Temple, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple where he was an emeritus treasurer, Eastern Star Laura Chapter #301, and American Legion Post #307.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.  Jack also served on the Dakota County Bank (now F&M Bank) for many years and other boards owned by F&M Bank.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Sorensen; daughter Phyllis (Dale) Wickwire; a son Robert (Darlene) Sorensen; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and his beloved puppy Abby.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra Fay, and two brothers Lowell Sorensen and Veral Sorensen. 

Memorials may be given to St. Croix Hospice or First United Methodist Church in Jack’s memory.
