Joe A. Keefer, 65, of South Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at a local hospital, surrounded by his family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

 

Joe was born on September 18, 1956 in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Harry and Marie (Workman) Keefer. He grew up in South Sioux City, and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1974. He went on to become a Journeyman Carpenter and Lineman.

 

On August 10, 1990 Joe married Tracy Crowe in South Sioux City.

 

He worked for MidAmerican Energy for 35 years, holding various positions during his time with the company and retiring as a Lineman.

 

Joe was a passionate outdoorsman and a professional storyteller. He loved hunting ducks and geese with his sons and lifelong friend, Rocky Albertson; fishing; shooting sports; and camping. He could often be found attending various sporting events for family members and friends, and coached his children in many youth sports. Beyond spending time outdoors, Joe enjoyed cooking; canning; gardening; and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Tracy Keefer; daughter, Erika (Brian) Arp, Friend, NE; sons: Kody, Madison, SD; and Karter (fiancé Emily Brown, Brookings, SD); grandsons: Grady and Nash; sisters: Elaine Caraway, Grand Island, NE; Sharon Johanson, Pleasanton, CA; Debbie Elsey, Eden Prairie, MN; and Celeste Merchant; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marie; a brother, Jim Keefer; and a grandson, Beckett Arp.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for future designation.
