Joyce Marilyn Lake

Joyce Marilyn Lake, 88, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully June 7th, 2022 surrounded by family in Phoenix, Arizona. Services will be held Thursday, June16th at 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at church. Burial will be immediately following at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill Iowa.  Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com

Joyce Thiele was born April 25th, 1934 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Harvey and Florence(Worner)Thiele. The family moved to Great Bend, North Dakota where she lived from infancy until graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1952. She attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Education. She taught High School in Lawton, Iowa for 3 years. Joyce married Darrell E. Lake on June 7th, 1958 after which she became the secretary for Sergeant Bluff schools where Darrell taught music. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1964 with their infant daughter Janna Lynn. Deanna Lynn joined the family in 1965 and Douglas Grant in 1971. They joined Grace United Methodist Church in 1963 where Joyce was active in Mothers’ Club, UMW Circles, numerous committees and many volunteer activities. She also volunteered at the soup kitchen, St. Luke’s Womens’ Auxiliary and had served on the board of the Boys and Girls Home. Joyce had a huge heart and her life was marked by generosity to those in need. She enjoyed flowers, animals, music, reading and treasured her family and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her daughter Deanna, an infant brother Wendell, her parents and many cherished relatives. She is survived by her brother John and his wife Jan and their children Marc, Gregory and Jennifer (Nelson), her daughter Janna and her husband Mark, her granddaughter Jerica and her husband Tunji, her son Douglas and his wife Yolanda and their children Eviana, Sofia, Arath and Camila.
