Robin "Roy" Ray Petersen

Robin “Roy” Ray Petersen, 63, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021.

Roy was born on January 9, 1958 in Sioux City, Iowa to Richard and Gladys “Duby” Petersen. Roy had five siblings, three sisters and two brothers. Roy attended South Sioux City High School. Roy spent some time away from South Sioux City in his adult years, living in both Kansas City and Colorado, before ultimately returning to reside in South Sioux City. Roy was a self-employed finish carpenter for most of his life. He took great pride in his work. Roy married Tracy Rothe in June of 1991.  Roy and Tracy had two sons together, Justin “Bubs” Petersen and Dustin “Dusty” Petersen.  They divorced years later. Roy never remarried.

Roy was an easy going, fun loving guy who always tried to live in the moment. Roy loved the outdoors. His favorite outdoor activities included: four wheeling expeditions, camping, fishing, and pheasant hunting. Roy was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf and watching football, especially if the Huskers or the Dolphins were playing.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gladys, and a brother-in-law, Don McArthur. Roy is survived by his son, Justin Petersen and wife, Heather of Grove, Oklahoma, and son, Dustin Petersen and wife, Allyssa of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Vickie McArthur of Ponca, Nebraska, Rita Bossow and husband, Rex of Gypsum, Colorado, Duby Book and husband, Ronnie of Gypsum, Colorado; brothers, Randy Petersen of Montrose, Colorado and Danny Petersen and wife, Janet of Dakota City, Nebraska; grandchildren, Dylan, Braylon, Kortlyn, and Kasen; three aunts; nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

Abiding by his wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
